In a meeting on 21 January 2019, Cheltenham Borough councillors will hear from Gloucestershire County Council officers about traffic flows, including traffic data, for phase four of the Cheltenham Transport Plan. There will be a paper on the economic case for the trial scheme looking at retail impact, investment and business confidence, parking in CBC car parks, and a move towards sustainable travel; a petition is also being submitted by Cllr Tim Harman.
The county council propose to continue with the trial until late 2019 and are seeking Cheltenham Borough Council’s agreement as partners. County council officers are currently working on the final designs for proposed changes to the highway following feedback on the trial which will be made available once finalised.
Cllr Andrew McKinlay, cabinet member for development and safety, says: “Improving the environment, traffic management and boosting the local economy is at the heart of the Cheltenham Transport Plan (CTP), the borough council’s vision for a better town centre.
“The reports from the county council and our own officers show that the trial is bringing many benefits to the town centre and I am pleased that together with the county, we have been able to respond to concerns and make adjustments.
“We will continue to work with the county to monitor and assess the data and survey collected from residents.”
