Meet in Cheltenham
Meet in Cheltenham launched at the Meet South West trade show in Bristol on Friday 31 January and exhibited alongside partners from Cheltenham Racecourse and The Cheltenham Trust. The trade show brought together event buyers, venue finding agencies, venues and suppliers from across the South West region to discover, learn, network and do business.
We are really excited to put Cheltenham on the map for Business Tourism and MICE and will be attending a number of exhibitions to raise the awareness of our town and fantastic venues. Three Counties & Cotswolds Tourism Forum
It was great to see a number of our members at the inaugural Three Counties & Cotswolds Tourism Forum which took place on 23rd January at the Doubletree by Hilton, here in Cheltenham.
Around 150 delegates were in attendance to hear from speakers including VisitEngland, Barclays and Expedia alongside some of the region’s leading tourism figures. Thought provoking panel discussions included sessions on the value of local food & drink, the secrets to strong and effective leadership and the importance of collaboration and partnership working – a recurring theme throughout the whole day.
Picking up on some of the actions discussed on the day, including TXGB, overseas marketing and VisitEngland campaigns, please look out for further updates over the coming weeks as we progress these opportunities.
For those members that were unable to attend the Forum, you can access the presentation slides from the day by joining the Three Counties & Cotswolds Tourism Forum group on Linkedin here: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/8891020/
Looking ahead, a date has already been pencilled in for a 2021 Tourism Forum, so please pencil Thursday 11th February in your diary – or register your interest here https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/tourism-forum-2021-tickets-90529481115
UKInbound Conference – 5th & 6th February
In the spirit of collaboration and partnership referred to above, Marketing Cheltenham will this week be joining our colleagues at Cotswold Tourism to attend the annual UKInbound Conference in Bristol. UKInbound is the UK’s leading trade body representing inbound operators that bring visitors into the country from overseas markets. The annual conference is one of the largest tourism events of the year and will provide Marketing Cheltenham with the opportunity to meet with dozens of tour operators, group organisers and agents looking to bring more of their clients into the region.
This joint activity, alongside Cotswold Tourism, is the first in what we hope will be an extensive programme of overseas marketing and market development over the next year. Watch this space for more details on this programme in the coming weeks.
Light Up Cheltenham
Light Up Cheltenham got off to a spectacular start on Saturday 1 February with thousands of spectators attending the opening night. The evening saw Spark! a street theatre drumming group put on a dazzling performance finishing at Imperial Gardens. Spectators were then able to take the opportunity to ride on the giant observation wheel or join a guided tour.
The launch marks the beginning of three weeks of Light Up Cheltenham, which sees over 30 buildings dramatically lit up across the town.
We’ve kicked off January with a great start. Website visits are up from the same period as last year by an impressive 41%. Page views also increased significantly by 35%. The Light Up Cheltenham content proved to be very popular this month with over 13,000 hits.
Facebook had the best engagement yet with 354K impressions over the four weeks plus 158k video views and 296k impressions on Twitter.
