It’s safe to say that a lot of Cheltenham businesses have flourished thanks to plenty of sunshine this month, but as the weather takes a turn and Autumn approaches, we’ve had time to reflect on everything that’s been achieved to date.   • Membership milestone: We are absolutely delighted to have reached the ‘big 100’ membership mark, as well as supporting a further 400 affiliated businesses too! Read the full story here
  • Summer video update: At the end of July, we launched our summer video (see our YouTube Channel) and it reached 16,000 views in the first seven days. As August ends, views of the video has slowed, but we can confirm that the video reached 93,450 people, was viewed 46,123 times and was played for a whopping 11,121 minutes! A huge success in our pursuit to promote the town to visitors
  • Christmas Campaign Launch: Following the development of the Christmas marketing plan to encourage visitors to shop in and enjoy the town, we have implemented the strategy which will come to fruition in the coming months across print and digital media
  • Regency Cheltenham Cycle Trail: following our trial-run Instameet in July, we have now officially launched the Regency Bike Tour with member The Bicycle Hub. Visitors can now sight see Cheltenham on two wheels in two to three hours, including bike hire, trail map and mobile app. Find out more…
  • Cycling video: in support of the Mark Cavendish Sportive, the Regency Cycle Trail launch and all the other cycling activities available in Cheltenham, we thought it only right to promote it with a video!   • Supporting Cotswold Tourism with the DEF Project Initiative. As part of the DEF fund, Cotswold Tourism has been given £250,000 to support visitors to explore the region, including Cheltenham. We have been participating in the group meetings for the project, representing members and local businesses to ensure our town benefits from the increased profile too. Read the full story…
  • Supporting Cheltenham Festivals with the launch of the Literature Festival line-up and ticket sales, including a number of original features. Visit Cheltenham website is growing in influence for our visitors and our members, and it is now one of the top five referring sites to the Cheltenham Festivals website, demonstrating that the strategy is paying off
  • Supporting Jury’s Inn with their ‘INNsider’ content. The Jury’s Inn brand produce the very aptly names INNsider guide to support their guests to make the most of their stays wherever they are. We were pleased and delighted to be asked to support with their guide for Cheltenham, which we hope will be published in the coming months.   • Proudly sponsoring the Gloucestershire Business Awards ‘Marketing Campaign of the Year’. We’ve also had a hand in selecting the winners, whose names are under wraps until the ceremony in October! Read the full story…
  • Launch of the new travel pages on Visit Cheltenham website. In association with Cheltenham BID and with significant support from sustainable transport charity SUSTRANS, we are proud to revamp and relaunch the visitor travel information section of the site. It is now much more comprehensive and as eco-friendly as possible, helping us to improve visitor experience in the town
  • Met with a number of representatives for local schools, to see how Marketing Cheltenham and Visit Cheltenham can support with international student recruitment and promotion of Cheltenham as a destination around the world
  • Ran the large hotels meeting which discusses core challenges faced by hotels to acquire and support guests. As a result of the meeting, we will be producing a ‘visitor experience’ guide which can be given to guests to encourage their exploration of the town and surrounding areas
  • Next year, Cheltenham Racecourse will host the Townswomen’s Guild conference bringing more than 1,600 delegates to the town. It is expected that more than 1,000 of these will stay in the town for three or more days and we have been supporting with booking more than 50 hotel rooms so far, with more enquiries daily
  • Developed itineraries for journalists from the Swindon Advertiser and the South West Argus publications, who will both be visiting in October to showcase the town ahead of Christmas. These trips will involve more than 30 Cheltenham businesses and will reach a readership of more than 100,000 regional visitors between them.
  • Added additional content to the Visit Cheltenham website including the new travel pages (see above), information on the Regency Cycle Trail (see above) and many more. The stats for the website are also in and it is performing brilliantly, including:
    • over 32,000 unique users in August
    • an uplift of 16.52% in visitors to the site when compared with 2017,
    • 102,029 page views, up 28.26% since last year
    • the eating out section has seen a 135% uplift in traffic and usage, great for restaurants, pubs & bars
    • the what’s on section has seen a 46.38% uplift in users since last year
  • Continued to build the Visit Cheltenham social media channels (which were revamped in April), including:
    • 24 pieces of content curated and distributed via the Visit Cheltenham blog
    • reaching 39,600 people via Twitter
    • reaching 125,793 people via Facebook, gaining more than 3,767 individual engagements on our posts
    • reaching nearly 42,500 people via Instagram
  • Securing press coverage of Cheltenham via our support of journalists which reached a subscribed readership of 122,603 people
  • Supported more than 25 PR & journalist requests for information and images
  • Welcomed our new members on board including L’Artisan, Travel Chapter, The Old Courthouse, Sykes Cottages, East India Cafe and Memsahib Gin & Tea Palace.
